In early 2023, Wovenbyrd’s founder, Ty Baucum, recognized the limits of selling exclusively through marketplaces like Wayfair, Amazon, Overstock, and Target. While these channels provided exposure, the brand lacked direct ownership of customer data and the flexibility to build a unique online experience. To bridge that gap, Wovenbyrd initially engaged an agency to create a DTC storefront. Unfortunately, the site combined WordPress, Shopify checkout, and custom JavaScript, resulting in frequent sync issues, slow updates, and a confusing user journey.
The triad architecture proved overly complex. Updates required juggling three separate technologies, leading to broken pages and unstable functionality. Customer navigation suffered, bounce rates spiked, and conversions stalled. Wovenbyrd needed a stable yet flexible platform—one that would streamline site management, improve performance, and support both direct-to-consumer and B2B selling in a single ecosystem.
Wovenbyrd partnered with Human Marketing, a BigCommerce Agency Partner, to architect a simpler, more powerful solution. They chose BigCommerce for its hybrid DTC and B2B capabilities and rapid implementation potential. Using the native Page Builder along with a custom Atomic Widget app, the team added trust-building elements—customer reviews, icons highlighting free shipping and quality materials, and concise copy—to every page. They then enabled BigCommerce’s B2B Edition to unlock features like custom price lists, payment terms, and quick reorder pads for wholesale clients.
To maintain marketplace channels without inventory headaches, Wovenbyrd integrated Pipe17, automating order streams and inventory sync across platforms. ShipperHQ handled advanced shipping configurations, and Fueled.io provided deep attribution insights.
The new BigCommerce site launched in just four months. Post-launch analytics revealed a dramatic transformation: bounce rate fell from 61% to 7% (a 54% decrease), and conversion rate soared by 564%. Equally important, Wovenbyrd gained full control over customer data and a scalable foundation for future features—reducing technical debt and eliminating the need for another platform overhaul.
With a unified BigCommerce platform, Wovenbyrd is positioned to grow both its DTC arm and B2B Trade portal. Future plans include expanding B2B workflows, refining omnichannel strategies with tools like Feedonomics, and unlocking additional BigCommerce modules as they scale. For Wovenbyrd, BigCommerce is more than a launchpad—it’s a long-term growth engine.
