When Rollie Nation launched in 2012 as a market pop-up, its handcrafted casual footwear earned a small but fierce following. Over eight years the brand moved into wholesale, but when page speeds slowed to a crawl and agility stalled, leadership realized they needed a new ecommerce engine. Their ambition to sell directly to shoppers in 11 countries was on the line. A fresh platform and a swift rollout became the only way forward.
By 2019, Rollie Nation’s BigCommerce site was creaking under traffic and complexity. Average page load times hovered high, driving a steep bounce rate. Every new page or automation task forced dependency on developers, choking any marketing sprint. The brand’s roadmap—to sharpen UX, expand direct-to-consumer channels and deliver a slick interface—remained on hold. They needed a stack built for non-stop changes, and fast page speed was critical to stay in step with shopper expectations.
Rollie Nation reviewed peers and found over 85% on Shopify Plus. In May 2019 they teamed up with Shopify Plus partner Disco Labs and went live in weeks. Core automations viaShopify Flow, customer service powered byGorgiasand a loyalty engine fromSmileplugged in natively. Content pages rolled out withShogun, whileHubSpothandled segmented campaigns. Later, Klaviyo and Okendo apps joined to drive email and reviews without new code.
Rather than waiting on dev resources, Rollie Nation assembled 48-hour project sprints to launch new features during the 2020 sales push. Automated tagging, email triggers and page templates went live fast. They reoriented from wholesale to B2C by crafting tailored landing pages and loyalty rewards. It enable them to pivot quickly instead of having to wait on devs—a shift that kept revenue flowing throughout lockdowns.
Since launch, page load time dropped 62%, conversion rose by 3.5% and bounce fell 1.5%. Rollie Nation escaped tech drag and now builds dynamic experiences—3D animations, AR previews and custom journeys. Freed from constant developer calls, the team spends more time testing new concepts and reading real-time shopper behavior to close any journey gaps.
With robust automations and native integrations, Rollie Nation plans photo-real 3D shoe views and augmented reality try-ons. The streamlined stack ensures every campaign can spin up in hours, not weeks. Now, growth depends on creative storytelling and targeted outreach rather than tech fixes.
