Rebecca Minkoff is best known for its modern handbags that fuse utility with style. When the brand’s ecommerce team realized customers had lingering questions about bag size, texture and feel, they turned to interactive media. They asked: can we give shoppers a near-touch experience without shipping samples? The answer was natural: embed 3D models and augmented reality directly on product pages, using Shopify Plus’s native tools.
Most online shoppers rely on static images and text to make purchase decisions. For fashion brands, however, tactile details matter. Rebecca Minkoff’s customer service team logged frequent inquiries about bag dimensions, leather softness and hardware finish. The leadership team, led by co-founders Rebecca and Uri Minkoff, wanted to shrink that gap. They needed a solution that fit seamlessly into the site, without adding custom infrastructure or third-party hosting.
Using Shopify Plus’s built-in 3D and AR capabilities, the team converted over 50 handbag SKUs into interactive 3D models. On desktop, shoppers could click and drag to view every angle. On mobile, tapping the AR icon let them drop a full-scale bag into their own environment. The experience was simple: upload glTF files, enable the AR badge in the product template, and let Shopify handle the rest. No extra server setup, no custom SDKs.
By harnessing 3D and AR on Shopify Plus, Rebecca Minkoff turned product pages into interactive experiences that replicate in-store browsing. These enhancements deepened shopper confidence, reduced hesitation and drove measurable increases in conversions.
