Petkeen.com launched in early 2020 as a lean five-page pet advice site with one simple goal: own the long-tail. In just under two years they exploded to over 4.3 million monthly visitors by churning out massive volumes of niche content, nailing SEO basics, and layering in display ads and affiliate links.
The site focuses on practical guidance around pet health, nutrition, behavior, and gear. They cover everything from choosing the right kibble to training tips for rare breeds. A small core team of five editors and authors oversees over 7,500 organic pages, supported by freelance writers and an aggressive publishing cadence that averages 300+ posts per month.
Their playbook? Target every long-tail keyword in the pet world. In May 2020 the site only had five pages. By mid-2022 they’d added over 7,500 detailed articles. That brute-force approach ensures they strike ranked pages that bring in constant organic search referrals. The result: dozens of #1 positions, including spots for terms like "brown cat breeds" and "most expensive dogs."
Google search drives 91% of all visits. Starting at zero, they climbed steadily month after month to 4.3 million visitors by January 2022. Their traffic breakdown is dominated by the USA (60.1%), followed by the UK, Canada, and Australia. Consistency in publishing and on-page SEO optimization were key factors in that rise.
Petkeen uses display advertising units—side banners, in-page banners, footer ads—and affiliate partnerships. With millions of pageviews, display ads alone generate at least $120K per month. Affiliate links and exit-intent pop-ups for brands like Smalls and Chewy boost the bottom line further. Revenues get reinvested into content production, creating a growth flywheel.
Petkeen.com’s story shows that a lean team, a razor-sharp content focus, and disciplined reinvestment can launch a pet advice empire in record time.
