In a market dominated by physical stores, Jersey Basement rethought the process of ordering team uniforms from start to finish. Instead of visiting a local shop, getting a quote, and waiting weeks for delivery, a coach or team manager can now place orders online and receive gear in days. Founder Chris Sonntag leveraged his experience at a leading uniform manufacturer to launch an e-commerce store that operates with zero brick-and-mortar overhead.
The team knew that eliminating a physical retail location meant lower prices. By choosing WordPress and WooCommerce, they built a flexible platform that could handle custom product variations, bulk ordering, and drop shipping. The Shelflife theme provided a responsive design that adapts to mobile and tablet screens, ensuring orders could be placed anywhere and at any time.
Prior to launch, the site loaded over 1,200 products. Each product page features multiple colorway images so that customers can zoom in and choose exact shades. The media library swelled to nearly 10,000 assets, a crucial move in an industry where shade variations matter. Bulk CSV import tools and structured back-end workflows kept the process organized and scalable.
Within three months the site earned first-page rankings on dozens of long-tail product searches like “Reversible Mesh Basketball Jersey Blue.” By optimizing anchor text, meta titles, and leveraging manufacturer names, Jersey Basement captured targeted traffic without a huge ad spend. They replaced static PDF catalogs with fully indexable pages, further boosting visibility and conversion.
Recognizing that many coaches place orders on the move, Jersey Basement unveiled the first fully responsive team-uniform site in the industry. The mobile theme ensures quick load times and straightforward checkout over 3G connections, giving them a competitive edge when other dealers still rely on phone orders.
Chris teamed up with Arizona’s Bam! Flash Media for theme customization and San Diego’s Smash React for SEO and analytics integration. This combination of specialized partners and an open-source platform ensured rapid iterations and ongoing support, keeping Jersey Basement ahead of competitors who rely on static catalogs and phone-only ordering systems.
Drop shipping partnerships with manufacturers cut redundant handling, while feature requests like a more intuitive variation sorter and SKU-friendly search remain on the development roadmap. An open support channel through WooCommerce Extensions allows them to adapt quickly as new requirements surface.
