In late 2022, Katherine “Kat” Fogler decided to do the exact opposite of what most horror fans would: she launched a YouTube channel to watch and react to the very movies she despises. Honest jumps and squeals, paired with a warm on-camera presence, became her calling card.
Kat’s pitch was simple: “I hate horror movies. They scare the *beep* out of me.” That blunt tagline resonated fast. Viewers weren’t looking for polished analysis; they wanted genuine discomfort mixed with humor. Each reaction was unfiltered—she’d gasp, cover her face, sometimes bolt out of frame.
Within a year and a half, Kat’s channel surpassed 57,000 subscribers and 5.3 million total views across 159 videos. That’s almost unheard of in a niche reaction category, especially from a creator who started with zero clout. Her secret? Regular uploads, clear branding, and thumbnails that highlight her terrified expression.
Relying solely on ad revenue can be risky—Kat’s earnings vary from $100 to $2,000 per month. To stabilize, she introduced a Patreon with four tiers ($3–$15) and roughly 205 patrons. Exclusive live chats, behind-the-scenes videos, and a private Discord server create a real community and deliver a consistent $2,000–$2,500 monthly.
Her Discord focus groups and monthly video calls keep fans invested. Patrons share feedback, suggest movies, and bond over shared terror. This two-way interaction turns casual viewers into loyal supporters and helps Kat tailor her content for maximum engagement.
Kat plans to introduce merch, boost sponsorships, and explore affiliate deals on streaming platforms. But her core remains the same: honest, fun reactions that make people feel they’re part of the journey.
