Home Outlet, a well-known home improvement retailer, recognized that its previous Drupal platform was holding back its online growth. Resource-intensive customizations, unreliable integrations, and a glitch-prone Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPIS) workflow frustrated both customers and staff. Seeking a scalable, flexible solution, the team evaluated multiple ecommerce platforms before selecting BigCommerce for its robust APIs and headless capabilities. Partnering with Elite agency Mira Commerce, Home Outlet embarked on a comprehensive replatforming to deliver an exceptional digital storefront and seamless BOPIS experience.
On Drupal, the BOPIS selection process often resulted in errors or missing inventory data, causing abandoned carts and frustrated shoppers. Integrating with BisTrack Epicor ERP was a manual, error-prone process that required frequent staff intervention. Marketing teams struggled to launch simple promotions without developer support, slowing down campaigns and hindering agility.
Mira Commerce designed a fully customized pickup selector using GraphQL to fetch store locations and live stock data from the ERP. Inventory is reserved at the chosen location in real time, ensuring accuracy at checkout. Additional metafields manage location-specific pricing, while Signifyd is integrated into a tailored checkout flow that flags suspect orders for manual review, reducing fraud risk and protecting in-store operations.
BigCommerce’s intuitive control panel allowed Home Outlet’s marketing team to independently launch online promotions, configure blog content feeds, and experiment with merchandising widgets. A custom “manual cart” feature enables store associates to build complete orders for customers—sending secure checkout links that only require payment details to finalize the sale.
Leveraging Jitterbit as the integration platform, Home Outlet connected BigCommerce with BisTrack Epicor to automate product imports, order sync, and status updates. Real-time inventory and pricing flows eliminate data silos, freeing up staff time and ensuring a unified commerce environment across online and physical stores.
Since the replatform, Home Outlet has seen a 22% uplift in online purchases, 19% more unique users, and a 17% increase in site sessions. Shoppers enjoy a frictionless BOPIS experience with curbside pickup, while backend operations run smoothly through automated ERP communication. Marketing agility has improved, enabling rapid promotion testing and personalized content that drives engagement and conversions.
Buoyed by this success, Home Outlet plans to launch direct shipping later this year and migrate its secondary brand, Seconds & Surplus, to BigCommerce. With continued support from BigCommerce and Mira Commerce, the retailer is well positioned to scale online growth and maintain its reputation for exceptional customer service.
