When Cabana Magazine marked its tenth anniversary, the team wanted more than a pop-up shop—they envisioned a space that lived and breathed the pages of their print journal. They chose a 100-square-meter corner in Milan’s Quadrilatero della Moda, a prime address demanding a flawless guest experience. Their catalog included artisanal ceramics, one-of-a-kind vintage furniture, limited-edition objects and collectible books. Managing this eclectic inventory without overlooking detail would be tough. Manual stock counts, separate online and offline catalogs, and a standard retail checkout process risked bogging down staff and disrupting the calm browsing environment they prize.
Working with partner agency Evocon, Cabana implemented Shopify POS to power both their online store and physical checkout. Store associates tap into a single product catalog, letting customers order items not on display via direct shipping. Mobile card readers and compact hardware support a showroom-style checkout, so guests never leave the narrative flow. Shopify Payments keeps transactions smooth, and unified customer profiles link online and in-store history for personalized follow-up.
Within weeks, manual inventory tracking time dropped by 50%, freeing associates to welcome guests instead of tabulating stock sheets. The streamlined interface cut transaction steps and improved speed by 30%, eliminating lines in the store. Staff learned the system in under a day, thanks to an intuitive layout. Meanwhile, automated workflows from Shopify Flow generated low-stock alerts and triggered order processing tasks, reducing overhead and keeping focus on high-touch service. Even rare, limited-quantity pieces stayed in sync across channels, preserving customer trust and boosting sales potential with an “endless aisle” approach.
By choosing Shopify POS and integrating it into a refined retail concept, Cabana Magazine moved its editorial world off the page and into a seamless shopping experience. Technology recedes to let design, storytelling, and curated objects remain center stage, creating a boutique that feels as deliberate and memorable as its magazine.
