When Brett Helling built his first ride-sharing blog while he was driving for Uber and Lyft, he had no idea it would one day drive millions of unique visitors—and become the blueprint he uses to flip websites. He started with ten failed sites in college, learned SEO basics, and kept refining his process until he found a winning formula.
On Flippa, Brett spotted Ridester for its high-value backlinks from Forbes and other authority sites. He acquired it, merged his personal blog content, and repositioned it as an advice portal for rideshare drivers. Within three years, traffic soared to 1.5 million unique visitors each month and became a key lead source for Uber and Lyft.
Rather than building from zero, Brett shifted to buying “stressed assets” in the $10K–$50K range. He focuses on clean white-hat backlink profiles and passion-driven content. Over time, he’s acquired about 20 sites, merged several, and now actively manages 13 properties including BloggingTips.com and Gigworker.
Advertising used to be the primary revenue source, but Brett has diversified into lead generation and service offers like consulting or premium guides. This shift not only boosts earnings but also protects against algorithm changes and policy shifts from ad networks.
By 2019 Brett was hiring dedicated managers for each site, but COVID-19 forced a pause. He resumed hiring in 2022 only to face Google’s Helpful Content Update in September 2023, which slashed his traffic. He downsized the team and took on 60-hour weeks to rebuild content according to new search guidelines.
Brett now believes in focusing on just one to three projects, doubling down on deep expertise and sustained passion. He has no fixed exit plan: he’ll hold sites as long as they engage him and deliver growth. His long-term goal is to keep iterating on Ridester, BloggingTips.com, and Gigworker, ensuring they remain helpful and search-friendly.
