In early 2023, entrepreneur Russ Halilov spotted a gap in remote collaborations: messy, incomplete meeting notes. He had grown a recruitment agency to half a million in revenue but still lost key details in fast-moving client calls. To keep his team aligned, he decided to build Bluedot, a Chrome extension that uses AI to transcribe Google Meet sessions, tag action items, and present everything in a clear, searchable dashboard.
As his agency reached 15 consultants, manual note-taking became a roadblock. Every client had unique needs, and missing a single requirement could cost deals. Instead of buying off-the-shelf tools, Russ’s team sketched out a Chrome add-on that would record calls, convert speech to text, and automatically highlight follow-ups without interrupting the conversation.
The Bluedot crew ran dozens of interviews, but an early Zoom integration flopped—companies wouldn’t share org-wide accounts. The team switched to Google Meet only, which testers were happy to connect at the individual level. That pivot unlocked friction-free trials and set the path for product-market fit.
With 80% of core features in place, Bluedot opened a private beta for its waiting list and charged only after users recorded multiple meetings. After two first-paying customers, Russ prepared a Product Hunt release. The extension hit #5 but drove only a few hundred visits. The breakthrough came when four newsletters mentioned Bluedot, sending ten times more traffic—some leads converted months later.
To land early users, the team opted for three tactics: personalized LinkedIn outreach (200 invites a week, 2–3 testers), paid and earned newsletter spots ($100–200 each), and active Reddit posts (40 submissions, 1.5M views). They also invested heavily in SEO and blog content to snag organic traffic over time.
Today, Bluedot boasts over 2,000 active installers and more than 100 paying businesses. The extension only accepts company emails, focusing squarely on B2B revenue. Monthly recurring revenue sits at $3,000 and continues to climb as remote work solidifies AI-powered productivity tools as essentials.
Invest in search visibility early. Publish articles and YouTube demos to attract the right audience. Test idea fit with real users before building every feature. And don’t underestimate community channels—Reddit and niche newsletters drove long-tail signups months after the initial push.
