Twinkle Twinkle Little One opened its doors in Chicago’s Roscoe Village in 2007. With two locations and a growing online presence, founders Rachel and Corey Glasson sold cribs, clothing, strollers, and more to families nationwide. But juggling QuickBooks POS in-store and Magento online meant staff spent hours reconciling inventory—and customers sometimes ordered sold-out items. That friction held the boutique back.
Manual reconciliation became the norm. Each sale in store or online updated separate systems, so inventory counts drifted apart. Upsells meant refunds and lost trust. Hiring contractors to sync data added cost but didn’t solve the root issue. Training staff on two platforms ate into selling time. Reports took days to produce. Growth plans stalled under operational weight.
In 2020, during the pandemic, Corey watched a Shopify demo and called Rachel: it was time. They migrated 25,000+ products from QuickBooks POS and Magento into Shopify POS. Integration with QuickBooks Desktop meant sales data flowed automatically into accounting. Inventory sync became instant, eliminating oversells and manual updates.
With one system for point of sale and ecommerce, the Glassons saw revenue jump nearly 80% year over year. Back-office tasks shrank, freeing time to market and expand. Shopify’s reporting highlighted top-selling items and regions ripe for new stores. Staff ran shops confidently without founders on-site. Automatic sync let inventory always be accurate online and in-store.
Switching to a unified commerce platform cut wasted hours, slashed errors, and unlocked growth. Centralized inventory management and seamless accounting integration are critical for small retailers scaling fast. With the groundwork in place, the boutique is ready to open more stores and reach more families.
