In May 2023, internet entrepreneur Joaquin Corrales decided to test whether a complete dropshipping store could be built and run entirely from a smartphone. Using the Shopify mobile app, he registered a domain, added products, installed apps, and set up payment processing—all without a laptop or desktop.
Joaquin identified potential winners on his phone by browsing Amazon’s Movers & Shakers section. He filtered by category—ultimately choosing the Home & Kitchen vertical—and spotted a set of six Christmas spirit shot glasses climbing to a sales rank of #5 with over 38,000 units sold in 24 hours.
After confirming demand, he found a supplier on AliExpress offering the glasses at about $6 each. Factoring shipping and fees, he set a retail price of $19.95, securing nearly $14 in profit per sale. He ordered a sample from Amazon, captured his own product shots, and created engaging videos for his TikTok campaigns.
Named Fillable Ornaments, the store featured custom images, product descriptions optimized for SEO, and a bundling option to boost average order value. Joaquin installed key Shopify apps—Oberlo for sourcing, Omnisend for email marketing, SEO Optimiser by Booster Apps, and Tracktor for order tracking—all through his phone.
With three user-generated videos showcasing filled shot glasses on a Christmas tree, he launched a $100/day TikTok campaign targeting U.S. users aged 18+. Within 23 hours, the store received two orders totaling $86.90 on $45 ad spend, achieving a 1.93x ROAS on day one.
Revenue: $86.90
Ad Spend: $45
Sales: 2
Profit per Unit: ~$14
ROAS: 1.93x
This experiment proved that a fully functional, profit-generating Shopify dropshipping store can be launched and managed entirely on a smartphone using the right apps and marketing channels.
