SaturdayClub began over twenty years ago in Singapore as a business-to-business label supplying boutique retailers with chic staples. Over time it built a direct-to-consumer arm, expanding online into Malaysia, Japan, the US, the UK and Australia. The brand’s focus on stylish yet effortless wardrobe pieces won a loyal following, but its old ecommerce stack slowed down every new site launch.
Using Adobe Commerce and PrestaShop, each country rollout took four to six weeks and cost upwards of SG$10,000. Data replication, custom integrations and bug fixes ate up developer hours. When Lunar New Year traffic spiked, manual cloud scaling was needed or risk downtime. Growth stalled under high time and resource demands.
In late 2023, SaturdayClub partnered with Verz Design to migrate onto Shopify Plus. They used the Expansion stores feature to duplicate the main site, set local currencies and configure payment gateways in under 48 hours per market. The unified admin dashboard gave a single control panel for all geographies. Checkout Extensibility enabled multiple third-party gateway options, vital for markets like Malaysia. Shopify’s APIs linked the new stores to back-office systems without errors. And being cloud-native, Shopify Plus handled peak loads automatically with zero manual intervention.
In just six months, SaturdayClub launched nine markets, cutting lead time by 85%. Since the switch, they’ve seen 5% month-on-month customer growth and a 38% year-on-year revenue boost in Malaysia during Lunar New Year 2024. No more downtime or unexpected hosting bills, only smoother rollouts and rising sales.
With international expansion humming along, SaturdayClub is now setting up a B2B wholesale portal on Shopify and exploring brick-and-mortar with Shopify POS. The speed and flexibility of Shopify Plus has become central to their growth playbook.
