When Max bought BaseTemplates at the start of 2019, it offered one pitch deck template and basic content pages. He saw room to expand. The site had organic sales, but it lacked structure and fresh material.
Max moved the site to a more flexible CMS, which cut load times and simplified updates. He wrote 30 new posts targeting long-tail keywords like “pitch deck business model slide”. That drove a surge in organic traffic over several months.
Next, he built PitchDeckHunt, a free gallery showcasing 150 public decks. A ProductHunt release pulled in over 1,000 upvotes, and referrals spiked. Since each launch attracted new backlinks, the SEO curve tilted upward.
By mapping where founders hang out online, Max reached out to OpenVC and other communities. He negotiated revenue share deals, bringing on five partners who added 5–10% of monthly revenue. It was a small lift for a meaningful gain.
Alongside templates, Max introduced a custom pitch deck design service. Though sales were fewer, each project averaged higher rates, boosting overall margins.
Within four years, BaseTemplates grew to serve over 10,000 founders and now averages more than $15,000 in monthly digital sales. Traffic climbed steadily, and user feedback praised the site’s ease of use and fresh content.
