Oakywood launched from a small workshop in the foothills of the Tatra mountains in southern Poland. Founder Mateusz Haberny grew up around expert woodworking, and he wanted to blend that heritage with modern design. Early orders came through Etsy, where Oakywood products sat alongside countless competitors. Each listing read like any other, and custom orders arrived by form. Buyers described what they wanted, but they had no way to see the final piece before purchase.
Etsy gave Oakywood reach, but no control. With similar stores everywhere, price became the only differentiator. Mateusz knew differentiation would require a platform he owned. At the same time, custom orders were time consuming. Excessive back-and-forth via messages created bottlenecks, and expensive custom furniture felt risky without clear previews.
In 2017, the team migrated to Shopify Plus and rebranded in one day. The moment the site went live, Oakywood gained flexibility to adjust layouts, add content blocks, and drive conversions. It was a quick launch that took hours, not weeks, and the brand kept evolving. Shopify’s app library meant new features were just a click away.
To tackle custom orders, they integrated Precismo and Shopify AR. By scanning prototypes, shoppers could generate accurate 3D models—spin them, zoom in, even overlay them in their living rooms using mobile cameras. The brand find new customers every month who bought solely because they could preview a piece in their space.
Trustpilot integration replaced scattered reviews from Google and Stamped.io. Stars, comments, and real customer photos appeared on product pages. Within two months on Shopify, Oakywood collected 200 reviews, earning a 4.7 average rating. Certification badges and social proof across the site drove buyer confidence.
Shopify Markets opened doors to 18 countries. With local currencies, language options, and clear shipping rates, Oakywood tackled new markets without rebuilding the store. Average order value climbed 84% in the UK, 232% in Switzerland, and a staggering 458% in Germany—thanks in part to transparent pricing and AR previews.
Key product sales surged 250%. Custom orders soared from almost none to 200–300 monthly. Today, Oakywood runs a reliable global operation, with AR tools, reviews, and multi-market setup fueling steady expansion. The store supports sustainability goals by offering durable, long-lasting furniture.
