In the spring of 2009, grass-roots audio engineer Graham Cochrane was laid off. With a newborn on the way and dwindling savings, he set out to expand his part-time mixer work. But his breakthrough came when he launchedThe Recording Revolutionas a blog and YouTube channel—sharing bite-size tutorials on recording and editing. Instead of waiting for clients, Graham published three articles and one video per week to demonstrate his skills.
In year one, daily views climbed from 60 to 2,000 as Google searches and YouTube subscribers surged. Graham began earning $200–$1,000/month via ad revenue and sponsorships after sending a simple press kit to gear brands. He offered banner ads on the blog and shout-outs in videos, gradually learning what his audience valued.
April 2010 marked a pivot: Graham recorded his first course on Pro Tools for $45. Using Screenflow, he captured his screen and voice in 3–4 hours. He grew an email list of 500 subscribers by offering a free ebook. The result: $1,000,000 in course sales within a year. As courses multiplied, monthly course revenue reached $40,000 by 2021.
After mastering digital products, Graham launched a second site and Six-Figure Coaching Community. By 2022, the Automatic Income Academy and Epic Mastermind programs brought in $120,000/month. With email funnels on autopilot, he works just five hours weekly and spends more time with family.
