Monte Design was set up in 2005 by Ralph and Michelle Montemurro. They had trouble finding high-quality furniture for their son’s nursery that would also look good beyond baby years. Their answer was to craft pieces that adapt from nursery to living room. Over time they built a reputation across North America for solid craftsmanship and clean lines.
After nearly a decade leading the niche for versatile nursery furniture, Monte Design faced knockoffs selling lower-cost imitations. Their sales started to slip. To make matters worse, their platform offered little data on customer behavior—no clear view of where visitors came from or why carts were abandoned.
In January 2018 they moved to Shopify Plus. That gave them ten times more data than before. They worked with experts to track Google Ads returns and discovered conversions they had not seen. When they noticed 70% of traffic came from phones, they fine-tuned their mobile design instead of building it from scratch.
They also reworked their Google Ads campaigns with help from the Shopify Plus team. By mapping transactions back to ad clicks, they trimmed waste, paused low-performing keywords, and increased bids on top converters. Spend efficiency rose while overall ad-driven revenue grew.
Next, they refreshed marketing elements: a larger product slideshow, clear shipping incentives on each page, and an SEO check. They also added a Find a Store section to drive foot traffic to partner retailers across North America.
These changes pushed web traffic up by 15% and year-over-year revenue by 12%. Their original goal was a 5% lift in four months—they nearly doubled that target. With deep customer data at hand and a seamless mobile site, they reclaimed their lead in a market their brand shaped.
Thanks to detailed traffic reports, they can now segment visitors by source and adjust their spend week by week. Instead of blind ad buys, each dollar is targeted at high-value segments. The SEO work boosted organic visits, while clearer calls to action improved checkout rates.
The Find a Store page led to a 20% increase in in-store visits from partner shops. That extra visibility brought new customers who then returned online for full collections. Today Monte Design sells directly, through Shopify-powered stores, and wholesale to specialty baby and kids retailers.
