Lekker Home, a Boston-based luxury furniture retailer founded in 2003 by Natalie van Dijk, faced mounting challenges on the Magento platform. While Magento promised flexibility, it demanded constant developer intervention, ballooning costs and slowing down routine updates. With a B2B license set to expire, the leadership team sought a robust, scalable solution that could handle complex wholesale transactions and elevate the overall shopping experience for both residential and commercial clients.
The company initially embraced Shopify Plus for its B2C storefront, which met basic retail needs but lacked enterprise B2B features. Migrating to Magento offered custom pricing and advanced catalog management, yet performance issues and security patches quickly became a drain. Page load times lagged, SEO suffered, and each minor tweak required dedicated developers. This operational bottleneck hindered growth, especially as B2B customers demanded self-service portals and personalized pricing.
With just three months left on their Magento license, Lekker Home evaluated leading ecommerce and ERP platforms. BigCommerce emerged as the clear frontrunner for its out-of-the-box B2B Edition, robust security, and high performance. Meanwhile, Acumatica was chosen to centralize finance, inventory, and product data. The integration between BigCommerce and Acumatica promised a unified view of orders and stock levels, essential for seamless omnichannel operations.
Partnering with Arctic Leaf, the team mapped requirements, configured the BigCommerce B2B Edition, and set up custom catalogs and quote management. Simultaneously, an Acumatica VAR integrated the ERP via the Acumatica Connector. A dedicated BigCommerce Project Manager and Solutions Architect coordinated cross-functional efforts. After internal testing and a soft launch, the new site went live in just 90 days. Despite the tight timeline, the project delivered every custom feature without sacrificing quality or budget.
Post-launch, Lekker Home recorded a 40% improvement in page load times and a 25% lift in organic traffic from enhanced SEO. The B2B self-service portal adoption rate soared to 85%, freeing sales teams to focus on relationship building and strategic growth. Customers gained control over quotes, pricing, and repeat orders, leading to higher satisfaction and faster order cycles.
Buoyed by these successes, Lekker Home plans to explore headless commerce for richer brand experiences and expand internationally. With BigCommerce and Acumatica as cornerstones, the retailer is poised to deliver consistent, high-performance shopping journeys across every channel.
