LA Police Gear began as a one-off operation by former officer Sean Frank, who was frustrated by subpar duty gear. Over two decades, the company has evolved into a respected supplier of tactical equipment, workwear, and outdoor essentials, serving professionals and enthusiasts alike. Facing the limits of outdated platforms, the team sought a resilient, flexible ecommerce solution that would support rapid growth and seamless customer experiences.
Initially hosted on Yahoo, LA Police Gear hit scaling walls—limited integrations, slow back-end updates, and costly customizations. A 2017 shift to Magento promised relief but delivered frequent downtime, expensive hosting, and frustrated shoppers. In pursuit of stability, affordability, and ease of use, the operations team began exploring hosted cloud platforms that could power both retail and wholesale needs.
Upon selecting BigCommerce, LA Police Gear collaborated with Groove Commerce to rebuild its site on theVelocityframework. The new theme leveraged prebuilt Page Builder widgets for fast edits without coding. Groove optimized navigation, simplified merchandising zones, and tackled Core Web Vitals—slashing First Input Delay and boosting page speed.
To streamline omnichannel feeds, the team adoptedFeedonomics, centralizing product data across ad networks and email lists. Coupled with BigCommerce’sB2B Edition, they introduced purchase orders and custom pricing for business accounts. Loyalty and trust grew as customers received timely shipping, reliable promotions, and clear order management.
Behind the scenes, LA Police Gear embraced apps like Yotpo for reviews and points, NoFraud to prevent chargebacks, and Advanced Shipping Manager for complex logistics. Groove’s Metafields Editor empowered non-technical staff to manage SEO fields and custom attributes directly. The result: a leaner workflow and fewer developer tickets.
Within weeks of launch, revenue climbed 14%, conversions jumped 67%, and First Input Delay improved by 7%. The platform’s reliability freed the team to focus on promotions and customer care, not code fixes. B2B leads increased as new wholesale features attracted institutional buyers previously deterred by manual processes.
Bolstered by dependable infrastructure and strategic app choices, LA Police Gear plans to expand into additional marketplaces like Walmart and further customize its storefront with analytics dashboards. With BigCommerce and Groove Commerce as partners, the brand is poised to accelerate growth in both retail and wholesale channels.
