When Popov spotted frustration in existing CMS options, he built BCMS to solve real developer and client issues. In just 10 months he hit $4K MRR with a modular headless platform that stays simple for non-technical teams without losing power for engineers.
Most CMS tools mix presentation layer with content storage, forcing rigid templates and clumsy upgrades. Big vendors locked features behind high fees, while open source options often lacked design polish or advanced workflows. Teams wasted time on custom tweaks or paid steep SaaS charges.
Popov set out to separate content handling from how it appears on screens. BCMS mounts as an API-first, headless tool built on Vue, Node.js and TypeScript. This trio offers familiar code patterns, strict typing and smoothed async handling.
Instead of packing every feature into a single dashboard, BCMS exposes abstract content blocks. Teams combine those blocks on demand, any number of fields and relations, avoiding bloat. New page types and data models appear without writing new code.
Rather than cold outreach, Popov opened BCMS to existing digital studio clients. He offered lifetime licenses to the first 20-30 users in exchange for detailed feedback. Their early bug reports and feature requests shaped the core interface.
These customers trusted the team to switch CMS mid-project and to add dozens of editor seats. Their recommendations carried weight in small developer circles. A handful of referrals triggered organic growth without paid ads.
Once the platform proved stable, Popov's team polished docs, launched a public site at bcms.io and built tutorials. Content marketing and SEO improvements began to pull in side project builders and indie hackers searching for headless CMS. Popov notes paid channels underperformed for this toolset.
BCMS now brings in $4,000 in recurring monthly revenue from paying subscribers. Popov plans to invest in strategic integrations, refine the affiliate program and explore partnerships that reach dev agencies. New features will focus on multi-language support and granular roles.
