Casey's Distributing, a long-standing sports memorabilia wholesaler, found themselves grappling with an outdated Magento site that was bleeding time and money. With tens of thousands wasted on custom fixes and ongoing security concerns, the team knew they needed a more robust, low-maintenance ecommerce platform. In early 2024, they partnered with MaxQV and BigCommerce to reimagine their entire B2B hub.
Before the switch, the old Magento system required manual updates for each order and constant patching for security vulnerabilities. Warehouse staff spent 14-hour days keying orders into back-office software. Its been a grind that kept productivity low, and the company struggled to scale beyond peak season demands. Meanwhile, DDoS threats loomed and constant server maintenance drained IT resources.
After testing multiple platforms including Shopify, WooCommerce, and Volusion, the team settled on BigCommerce. The intuitive product upload interface, flexible custom fields, and bulk spreadsheet imports meant managing 50,000 SKUs became a breeze rather than a headache. Within days, product lines could be updated in minutes without developer involvement.
MaxQV completed the build in one week, followed by two weeks of rigorous testing. By month’s end, Casey’s Distributing had a mobile-responsive, modern storefront that integrated seamlessly with their ERP and inventory systems. The speed and minimal cost of migration impressed stakeholders across the board.
Transitioning to a SaaS solution removed the burden of server monitoring and DDoS mitigation. BigCommerce’s continuous security updates gave the team peace of mind, allowing them to focus on growth rather than fire drills. Integration with Brightpearl and ShipStation automated order routing and fulfillment with no manual data entry needed.
Leveraging the BigCommerce API, Casey’s Distributing is building a custom app for the BigCommerce App Store. New store owners will easily add NFL, NBA, NHL, and NCAA merchandise directly into their catalogs—complete with automated quantity updates and obsolescence removal. This opens a new revenue channel while showcasing the platform’s extensibility.
By automating order intake, inventory sync, and shipping label generation, the team achieved an 8× reduction in manual labor. Orders now flow from storefront to Brightpearl to ShipStation, with tracking numbers updated automatically. Staff morale soared as employees reclaimed time to focus on strategic tasks and quality control.
Today, Casey's Distributing uses BigCommerce as its central hub for B2B operations, serving over 2,000 retail partners across North America. With real-time inventory feeds, scalable catalog tools, and a path to future app monetization, the company is positioned for sustained growth well into the next decade.
