In 2020, Wilson Bright was at a Stacks Blockchain hackathon themed around giving individuals control over their data. He noticed none of the survey tools he used offered end-to-end encryption or true privacy. Domain names he checked would disappear in hours, a real sign of how the web leaks personal info. He saw a clear opening for a tool built from the ground up to keep responses private.
Rather than drafting long spec docs, Wilson decided to build a working prototype in three days. Armed with Angular for the front end, Node.js on the back end, and serverless Cloudflare Workers, he tied identity and storage to the Stacks Blockchain and Bitcoin network. On day three he posted the first public link on Product Hunt, proving that speed and execution matter over endless prep. He build version one fully functional, encrypting data from end to end.
BlockSurvey offers tiered plans to individuals, small teams, and large organizations. Individuals can get started at $29 per month, while team plans go up to $69. For bigger clients, custom pricing unlocks Single Sign-On, dedicated SLA, and enterprise features. This approach balances self-serve simplicity with high-touch deals, making sure the product matches use cases from casual surveys to government-level data security.
Surprisingly, early traction came from people using BlockSurvey for Black Lives Matter event RSVPs. They needed a tool that kept participant info secure. That use case validated Wilson’s idea, but paying users appeared in sectors like mental health, sexual health, activism, relationship coaching, and spirituality. Those verticals prize privacy and drove BlockSurvey’s first $15K in monthly revenue, proving that niche focus can trump broad generalism.
Web3 projects flocked to BlockSurvey for token-gating surveys and secure identity verification. Wilson leaned on organic SEO by encouraging link sharing, accounting now for 10-15% of site traffic. He ran small newsletter ads with budgets under $100, tapped into Twitter and LinkedIn outreach, and maintained a steady 20% conversion rate on direct pitches. These tactics combined to fuel consistent sign-ups without massive ad spends.
At first, Wilson neglected sales calls, hoping the product would sell itself. But once he brought in a sales coach, scripts improved and close rates rose. He studied “Founding Sales” and “Sales Acceleration Formula, ” applying techniques like qualification questions and demo scripting. Today, BlockSurvey’s pipeline is predictable, letting him plan ahead and keep churn low.
Going forward, Wilson plans to add AI features for smarter surveys and explore AR/VR for immersive data collection. He’s confident that Web3 standards for privacy and decentralization will keep opening new opportunities. For entrepreneurs eyeing this space, the path is clear: move fast, charge for real value, and don’t ignore the art of selling.
