Starting a niche dropshipping store these days takes more than generic product lists. In this case study, we follow Sharif Mohsin, a six-figure dropshipper who decided to build a brand-new portable Bluetooth speaker store from the ground up with just $100 and no preexisting audience. He skipped email lists and past suppliers, used TikTok to spot trends, and launched on Shopify’s free trial. Here’s how it unfolded.
Sharif optimized his TikTok feed by liking dropshipping stores and products, so the algorithm surfaced trending items. Scrolling through, he zeroed in on a Bluetooth speaker that amplifies sound when placed on metal or glass. He checked the shop’s follower count, video likes, comments, and price point ($40). The numbers hinted at demand. To source it cheaply, he looked on AliExpress ($21) versus Amazon ($38). A $19 profit margin was clear, but he ordered from Amazon to speed up sample delivery.
Key features mattered: a battery life of 4–10 hours, total harmonic distortion under 1%, lightweight design, true wireless stereo support, and water resistance. These specs set the product apart from low-end alternatives.
Under Shopify’s 30-day trial, he named the brand “Porta Speakers” to convey portability. Using Canva, he designed a clean logo. The site featured sharp images, a clear product title, a 50% launch discount, and a concise headline. He added a dynamic GIF placeholder and planned to swap it with custom videos once the sample arrived. An FAQ and cloned review section boosted credibility.
With no ad budget, Sharif posted organic TikTok videos. He hit 1,000 followers by engaging viewers: one video asked users to rate the best surface for amplified sound and went viral with 16,000 views, 3,257 likes, and 591 comments. Once he reached the follower threshold, he added the store link to his bio.
Within days, three speakers sold at $39.97 each, shipping cost $22 per unit, sample cost $38. Revenue totaled $119.90, minus $66 shipping and sample cost left $15.90 profit. No ad spend was used.
This test proves a niche dropshipping store can launch on a shoestring if you pick the right product, move fast on samples, and tap organic social reach instead of paid ads.
